Zig-Zag/Exhaust [Set 2]

Hello everyone!

This decklist was created following a long-awaited moment: the arrival of an Akesha Control archetype capable of standing up to the aggressive meta that dominated Set 1.

What's in the box?!

Originally designed to be more exhaust-focused, it quickly became clear that a more competitive version needed to integrate the core of the Zig-Zag archetype in order to maintain a clear win condition.

I love the smell of napalm in the morning. It smells like... victory.

To win, you need to rely on the Zig-Zag principle, which is at the heart of Akesha:

Or other low-mana-cost cards with Akesha’s 'After You' ability.

  • Respond to your opponent’s plays with strong cards to secure control of one side of the board, such as: Kadigir-Alchemist, Baba Jaga, Pamola, which provide both board presence and support effects, whether through card draw, 'After You' from the reserve, or an exhaust ability.

I'm tired, boss!

While the exhaust mechanic alone is not a self-sufficient win condition, it allows for highly effective management of the opponent’s reserve by forcing plays from their hand, leading to discards when their reserve overflows at the end of the turn.

After reflection and testing, the combo Schneeball-Kommando + Eisumfangener Pass, while very interesting, was too dependent on this specific draw and sometimes had to be forced into a suboptimal timing. Der Nilam, verkümmerter Baum becomes the true core of the deck, and the goal in the early game is, if possible, to accumulate one or two of them to maintain constant pressure.

Depending on the matchup, it may be wise to establish your landmarks as soon as possible, even at the cost of losing both sides initially, in order to regain control over the long term through token generation.

If you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world.

Big question!

Since the possibilities are vast, the general approach is to seek tempo.

Also, with the removal of the common Verbannungstor, the interesting uniques that allow dealing with opponent landmarks become a real versatile asset.

Cards that force the opponent to discard also work exceptionally well with the exhaust archetype.
